This walk circles Camfield Place, the estate of the late Barbara Cartland. All the walks in this series use parts of this walk.
Directions
2.6 miles (4.2 km)
1: Take the footpath south of the beer garden on the east side of the car park. Walk uphill and diagonally SE across the field and go through a gate in the hedgerow. Head SSE until you reach another gate at the edge of woodland. With the woodland on your left, head SE until the path crosses a field and goes through a gap in the hedgerow to the B158. (540m)
2: Cross the road and turn left, walking NE along the east side of the B158 towards the right-hand bend in the road at the point where Wild Hill goes off to the left. (315m)
3: Turn right along a footpath which follows a private road heading SE. After 140m the footpath veers left to reach a wooden footbridge and a gate. Go through the gate and head NE with the woods on your right until you reach Hornbeam Lane. (415m)
4: Turn left on Hornbeam Lane and walk NW until you reach the B158. Opposite you will see a path. Cross the road and take this track continuing NW until you reach a footpath sign. (310m)
5: Turn right and head NE through Duncan’s Wood and downhill along a sheltered track between the fields until you come to a gate and a footpath crossing. (480m)
6: Turn left and head NW, keeping Essendon Brook on your right. Cross the footbridge and climb out of the valley. (740m)
7: At the top of the hill turn left on a byway open to all traffic (BOAT). Follow this byway SW until you reach West End Lane. (630m)
8: At West End Lane, turn left and follow it down the hill to the hamlet of Wildhill. (750m)
9: Turn left at the junction and The Woodman is on your right. (160m)
